➢ Task 1
Which do you think is the most important quality for a small business leader?
- Outgoing and friendly
I think the most important quality for a small business leader is creativity. First of all, when starting a business, you must be able to offer something that gives customers a reason to come to you. There is always going to be a bigger company already in existence you’ll need to compete with, so your product or service has to be new, or at least, you’ll have to offer it in a different way. Second of all, there are a lot of different challenges that face new companies, and it could take creative solutions to get past them. Because a new business is small, it might not have the resources to pull through unless its leaders use their wits.
➢ Task 2
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is important to protect children from learning about the difficulties in life too soon.
I disagree with the idea that children should be protected from learning about the difficulties in life. For one thing, it is necessary to learn these things, because growing up ignorant and sheltered will only cause problems. It would be easy for such a youth to get into trouble because he may not know what warning signs to look for. He may be too trusting and fall for scams. And when something truly upsetting happens to him, he may feel crushed because he hasn’t contemplated such difficulties before. For another thing, children will eventually learn these things anyway. Whether from TV or from friends at school, stories about the bad in life will filter down to them, and it’s better if their parents are there to explain these things properly.

Some people prefer to buy a technological device as soon as it is available to the public, while other people prefer to wait until others have adopted it. Which do you prefer and why?
The technology industry is always introducing new products, whether brand-new devices, newer versions of existing devices, or software. Of course some of these products are necessary for people to keep up with society, as without them one can feel out of touch. The question is which ones are really necessary, and personally, I prefer not to buy new products as soon as they come out.
First, new products often have problems when they first come out. A device or app may have design flaws or bugs that have not been caught by the company. For example, Samsung recently released a phone that had an electrical problem with its battery. It would sometimes even burst into flame, which is clearly very dangerous. For this reason, I think it better to wait for these sorts of problems to be dealt with. Once a product has been available for a year or more, these problems are more likely to have been detected and fixed. Especially considering that new products can be expensive, it seems wise to wait for the price to come down and purchase a cheaper and better product.
Second, people are often reliant on older technologies, and it can take society a while to catch up. Even if one were to purchase a new product, one would still have to deal with the older technology. Imagine all your friends use a certain app to communicate. A new communication platform comes out, but very few people are using it right now, and almost everybody continues to use the older app. You could switch to the newer product, but you will still need the old one to talk to your friends. This shows that it is sometimes better to wait until more people have adopted a new technology. If the technology is worthwhile, eventually its use will be widespread and switching to it will make sense, but until then, it is better to stick to what already works.
Although it is necessary to adopt new technologies from time to time, the idea that something should be adopted just because it is new is a foolish one. Because new devices and software often have kinks to be worked out and because it always takes time for people to stop using older ones, it is better to wait for others to adopt something new before diving in yourself.
